a few things for tonight because i really should have gone to bed already.  i just really need to share!

1) this is the cover art for that mix cd the art department at work put together.  jason did it.  rad, right?  check out my enormous feet!

2) sarah and i are officially going to portland for memorial day weekend!  i’m so excited!  it’s a new place for me, for sure.  so far, we have plane tickets.  and we have picked out a place to stay.  the rest of the planning will come eventually.  i’ve already read my frommers book on the city.  should be a lovely weekend!

3) more travel for me!  i’m going to boston to attend the how design conference.  you may remember i went two years ago when it was in vegas, and i went last year when it was in atlanta.  i’m really anxious to get to boston!  i’ve been meaning to get there (though i wish i was bringing sarah with me).  anyway, chris is going with me.  it should be quite an adventure for as, as i’m all about traveling everywhere and he’s never done much traveling.  i already have my frommers on boston, and i’ve read the “where to stay” section.  i’m anxious about making reservations for everything (hotel, flights) as we get close to the conference date (less than 2 months), but once that’s all taken care of, i’ll just be super excited.  i think it’ll be a really great trip!

4) and finally, i’m going up to pepperdine tomorrow afternoon to be a judge in a competition in one of ginger’s classes.  she was definitely one of my favorite professors there, so i’m excited to go back (again) and help her out.  it should be really fun!  also, i’ll get to have dinner with my brother afterwards, i hope, so that makes the long drive even more worth it.  i’ll report back on how everything goes.

g’night!

follow up

27 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

i wanted to post a little follow-up to the 5 favorite songs post.  we mixed jason, chris, marke, brian, and my songs together today.  it took a while, but i’m looking forward to hearing the final thing.  it’s very eclectic, as our tastes don’t overlap much.

in the discussion of how we chose our songs, i ended up coming up with the idea of making an entire mix cd of songs i love.  how indulgent!  it’d be perfect!  the songs i love the most all together could make me very happy!  so tonight, i decided to go for it, already having a list of 30-40 songs i love from last night.  and i did it!  i haven’t listened yet, but i’m excited to do it tomorrow.  i decided that instead of mixing them so it sounded right from song to song, i’d put the songs in autobiographical order (thanks, marke).  that means they’re in the order in which they became important to me.  here they are:

Maggie May – Rod Stewart
Crazy – Willie Nelson
Forever – The Beach Boys
In Another’s Eyes (feat. Trisha Yearwood) – Garth Brooks
Loving Arms – Dixie Chicks
More Than Words – BBMak
I’ll Cover You – Original Broadway Cast of “Rent”
I’ll Cover You (Reprise) – Original Broadway Cast of “Rent”
For A Little While – Tim McGraw
I’m Movin’ On – Rascal Flatts
Could It Be Any Harder – The Calling
One Day Closer To You – Carolyn Dawn Johnson
I Should Be Sleeping – Emerson Drive
I Can’t Go There – Kenny Chesney
You Look Good In My Shirt – Keith Urban
Brown Eyed Girl – Van Morrison
Come Home Soon – SHeDAISY
Stay – Sugarland
Tennessee – The Wreckers
Stay (Acoustic) – Little Big Town
Ten States Away – Meg Allison

what do you think?  i’m loving it! :)  then again, it’s all about me.

top songs

26 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

what are your 5 favorite songs?  simple enough question, but very hard to answer.  it was posed to me today as part of a larger project with some people at work.  i spent this evening trying to choose.

after much deliberation, i came up with (in no particular order):
emerson drive – i should be sleeping
keith whitley – when you say nothing at all
kenny chesney (featuring tim mcgraw) – i can’t go there
the calling – could it be any harder
keith urban – you look good in my shirt

thoughts?  very me, i’d say.

so now it’s your turn.  what are your top 5?

oh, for a little while

25 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

well, it was a good weekend up in san carlos! :)  i had a blast and wanted a few more days to hang out there.  but i’m back in laguna and back to work and my regular life already.  but first, about my weekend…

most of friday was spent with adam on the couch watching basketball on the parents’ huge tv.  it’s super fancy now with their high-def directv and the mega march madness package (every game of the whole tourney all in hd).  in the afternoon, we went down to palo alto to the apple store where meg works to see her and so i could get my computer looked at.  the cord to charge it wasn’t working right.  i got a new one.  all is well now. :)

saturday i went to a baby shower for my friend stephenie, who’s due in may.  it was awesome to see her, she’s doing well, and the shower was decent.  baby showers aren’t my favorite place to be (especially during the first weekend of march madness), but it was good to catch up with some old friends.  photos here.

the afternoon was spent watching more basketball before meeting up with meg, kath, and mel at the macaroni grill for a girls dinner.  so fun!  we had a blast and ate too much and just hung out.  we even took a minute to talk about our labor day weekend trip and where we might like to go.  and then we went to meg’s for a little bit to check out the new place and just sit around and chat some more.  it was awesome to be with all of them again. :)  photos here.

sunday was easter.  the family gathered at grandma’s, and it was a gorgeous day in the city.  we hung out and had a very strange combination of foods for lunch (kfc, barbeque, filipino food, and more).  it was simple and nice.  plus, i love seeing the crazy family.  it’d been a while.  photos here.

and then it was back to the oc yesterday (monday) morning.  i had a 6:30 flight, which is pretty killer because it means i have to get up at 4 so dad could bring me to the airport on time.  as they were starting to board my flight, they announced they were overbooked and were looking for a volunteer to give up their seat in exchange for $250 in credit for a future flight and a guaranteed seat on the flight leaving at 10.  well, figuring nothing too terrible would happen if i was 4 hours late for work (love that i have this flexibility!), i took them up on the offer!  i found a little breakfast, read a lot of “sense and sensibility,” and just hung out for a bit at the airport.  and then i got on the later flight and now i’m here.  it all worked out great. :)

so anyway, i’m just catching up on tv and whatever.  i should unpack, but i can always do that tomorrow, right? ;)

also, sarah and i are planning a trip to portland, or, for memorial day weekend, which is exciting.  we’re still reading up on the city, but it’s looking like a good long weekend destination.  i’m already excited about it!

so i’m off for tonight.  more soon. :)

but tonight we dance

19 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

wow.  it’s been forever since i’ve updated.  oops.  i’ve been busy and lazy and just doing other things.  but i really want to just take just a minute tonight before i crash.

life’s good.  :)  nothing in particular going on, but just good.

work’s so so so so busy, but things are going really well.  and i’m still having a really good time being there each day.

i’m headed up to san carlos tomorrow night for a long weekend.  we have friday off from work for easter, so i’m going to go visit the family and some friends.  mostly, my plan is to sit on the couch with adam and dad and take in as much basketball as possible this weekend.  oh, and we’re going to grandma’s for easter.  i’m beyond excited to be up there.  it feels like a million years since i’ve seen the family, and i miss them terribly.

oh, and march madness.  it’s my favorite time of the year!  my brackets are all filled out and ready to be ripped apart, as happens pretty much every year.  so fun! :)

okay, so i need to go to bed.  i’m completely exhausted.  more next time…

i’m not crazy

13 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

i love pat forde (at least in this instance). :)  i’m not crazy!

The postseason is here, the most wonderful time of the year. Here’s hoping we don’t spend half of it rehashing bad calls at crucial times in the biggest games — but you have to wonder.

Just in the past week, Pauley Pavilion seemingly became Homer Central: the atrocious foul call against Stanford’s Lawrence Hill (2) on Thursday night while he was snuffing a Darren Collison shot with 2.5 seconds left; and the egregious non-call on UCLA’s mugging of Cal forward Ryan Anderson (3) in the corner two days later. That, of course, was followed by the non-call on the over-the-backboard shot by UCLA’s Josh Shipp (4) — which at least was close, as opposed to the other two.

it just took a while

i’m so tired tonight, but i have some really fun news that i want to share with everyone, even if it might be bragging or something.  you’ll have to forgive me or just stop reading.

i’m not sure who remembers this far back, but at the end of 2006 i worked my ass off on some media kits at work.  and when i say “at work,” i mean that i worked on them mostly at home in the middle of the night on my own time, writing, editing, and designing them.  but they were for our 2007 publications.  they really were my pet project.  and today, the western publications association announced their nominees for the 57th annual maggie awards.  the maggies are the most presigious awards we apply for each year.  and guess what’s nominated!  my media kit for rtc magazine!  i’m beyond ecstatic!  the official category is: best media kit – trade or consumer publication.  that means basically: best media kit.  of all publications submitted (which is a ton).  the awards are in may, i have no expectation of winning, and i’m just so excited to even make it this far! :)

also, three of our publications are nominated for best trade publication in the category of computers/software, technology, training and program development.  yes, all three are nominees in the same category.  we have half of the 6 nominees in that category.  pretty cool.

so anyway, just wanted to share my big news! :)

i’ll admit it.  it only took me 2 days to get hooked on twitter.  only thing is, i want more people i know on twitter so we can all keep up with each other.  here’s my twitter:  http://twitter.com/missywyatt.  now it’s your turn to join!  follow me and i’ll follow you and it’ll be great!

i think if you give it just 3 days of really twittering, you’ll be hooked, too.  and i especially love it because it’s so easy to update and only takes a couple seconds.  and it’s super easy to read everyone else’s tweets, too!

what’s twitter?  why twitter?  this video says it PERFECTLY!

come on, kids! you know you want to!

heartaches are healed by the sea

10 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

well, i kind of feel like i have so much to write about since my last update a week ago.  i never mean to go that long between updates.  oops!  so let me give you the rundown.  in all reality, i haven’t actually been up to that much.

and one of the reasons i haven’t been up to a ton is that i am working a lot.  there are plenty of things going on there, and i found myself closing down the office more than once last week.  but stuff’s turning out nicely, thankfully, so it feels worth it. :)  also, marke and brian are in austin, tx, for sxswi so the office is particularly quiet.  but that does also mean that i am getting lots of work done.  haha!

in case you weren’t already aware, i’m a little bit obsessed with james mcavoy these days.  i got the first disc of the first season of “shameless” on dvd from netflix, so i enjoyed those episodes!  really good and he’s just lovely in it! :)  and so freakin’ british!  haha!  i love it, and i miss my london more than ever now.  also, i watched “rory o’shea was here” (also known as “inside i’m dancing”) last night, where he plays an irishman (obviously, if you look at the name).  really good film!  anyway, i kind of have a british accent (that sometimes switches to scottish or irish) in my head now.  it’s bad.  good thing i know it’ll go away quickly.  haha!

my plan for cleaning out my life a bit continued this past weekend.  i cleaned out my closet and dresser.  i had way, way, way too much clothing that i never, ever wear, and it was time to part with it.  i don’t need to keep all that stuff around.  so i sorted through everything, and i actually ended up giving away a ton of stuff!  i’d just it was about 40% of my clothes.  i never wore them!  anyway, i feel so much better with all that stuff gone. :)  and i gave it to a charity that came and took it all away today. :)

i talked to sarah today (like most days).  she’s doing great. :)  after what is actually kind of a long story, sarah has a new boyfriend, russell, who’s previously been her boyfriend but that was a long time ago when things were different.  anyway, it’s pretty exciting news, and he’s a good guy.

and daylight savings!  hooray!  i wait through all of standard time with bated breath for daylight savings time to return!  i went for my first walk on the beach of the year tonight.  it was awesome!  i mean, i really pushed myself and i’m already a little sore, but it’s just so good to get out there on a gorgeous evening (74 degrees).  took in some of that ocean air.  love it!

and i am thinking that’s about enough from me.  more soon…

black heels

3 March 2008 · Leave a Comment

i wanted to share a few quick things with you this evening…

i had a wonderful sunday just lazing around (and making a brief trip out to go to the gym).  i watched “the science of sleep” because i figured it was time to see another michel gondry film after liking both “eternal sunshine” and “be kind rewind.”  i also enjoyed this one, but it was a bit on the wacky side for me.  still, i did like the overall story and he really is so visually inventive.  and i rewatched “becoming jane” before mailing it back to netflix.  i loved it even more the second time around!  my love for james mcavoy continues (because i know you were concerned it might have already subsided). :)

i’m in love with a new band and their new album.  it’s different than anything else i’ve listened to, though i’m pretty sure that’s because it’s actually so unique.  the band is the punch brothers, assembled by nickel creek’s chris thile, who is a mandonlin virtuoso.  anyway, he composed this brilliant long form piece in a classical manner but it’s really bluegrass music.  it became the core of the album, called punch.  anyway, the whole thing is gorgeous and briliant.  if it’s any indication (it is for me personally), music snob marke heard a bit of it in my car and commented that it’s very avant garde.  indeed.  i’m not sure what else to say.  go forth and listen, my friends. ;)

okay, well i’m tired, but i think i’ll curl up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream and catch tonight’s “october road” before crashing.  more next time…
