“i got used to you whispering things to me in the evening
we followed the sun and its colors and left this world
it seems to me that i’m definitely
hearing the best that i’ve heard
so throw me a rope to hold me in place
show me a clock for counting my days down
’cause everything’s easier when you’re beside me
come back and find me
’cause i feel alone” — kt tunstall “throw me a rope”
this song was on “brothers and sisters” last night, and i haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since. good stuff. perfect for me and this journal.
i also want to just say that no matter how this entry turns out, i actually had a totally nice monday and i’m in a good mood. :)
i caught the final two episodes of “three’s company” last night, which was cool. they’re not a part of the group of episodes i’ve seen a million times. of course, me seeing them means i was up kind of late… like midnight. but then i did get a little rest through the night. for some reason, i woke up exactly at 7 and then couldn’t quite manage to get all the way back to sleep before my 7:30 alarm, but i’m alright. when the alarm finally did go off, i got up and showered. and then i got ready and dressed and everything right away. i already knew i was going to wear my shirt — the lusk one that i designed myself — today, so there were no decisions to be made. that’s good news for a monday morning when i’d rather be sleeping. ;) anyway, i had a little breakfast and then headed off to work.
work actually went really well today. i spent my morning filling some holes i’d left in the “cots journal” media kit so that jason and i could go through it and make whatever changes. no one’d seen it yet so i had no idea how it’d go over with everyone else. i just knew that i liked it. anyway, i also had a couple of “emergency” projects to take care of in the morning, which was no surprise because i had warning about them last week. no big deal. :) for lunch, jason and brian wanted to go out so i brought them to super bowl for chicken bowls, which we ate back at the office because we were all busy and there were no empty seats in super bowl. mine was pretty good, though i have no idea if jason and brian enjoyed theirs because we were all just working away. so anyway, yeah, i got a lot of work done and then got distracted by fun chit-chat in marke’s office with diana, jason, and marina. good times! :) i think we all needed that break and the laughter. and then as that was sort of breaking up, diana said to me, “okay! i’ll go get frozen yogurt with you!” as if i had invited her! so we went because that sounded like a delicious idea! :) and it was! plus, i got to tell her my whole house of blues concert story. anyway, at the end of the day, jason and i went through my whole “cots” media kit and made some changes and stuff. he likes it, though! so we’ll try to wrap that up asap and i’m already starting on the next one. my hours might be a little long until these get done, but that’s alright. i want them finished! so that meeting went well, and we’re going to just keep moving forward. or i am, anyway. ;)
after work, i headed for the beach for my nightly walk. it was a gorgeous night out, even if it’s definitely getting cooler and the sun is setting earlier. it was so clear, and the sunset was absolutely amazing. and yeah, i continue to run out of daylight, but that’s okay. no big deal. so good walk!
and then i’m on the beach heading back toward the stairs nearing the end of my walk when i notice really large, really fresh (because the ocean hadn’t washed them away yet and the tide was coming in) dog prints in the sand. i realized there were two women with their dog a ways ahead of me. not on a leash. on a beach where there are loads of signs saying dogs aren’t allowed. and so i caught up with them at the very top of the stairs, just as i had finished running all those steps! huffin’ and puffin’! ;) and then it went something like this…
me: excuse me? … excuse me? … excuse me!
crazy #1: (after clearly ignoring me finally decides to turn around) what?
me: (really nicely) um, actually there are no …
crazy #1: weknow. weknow.
me: (still nicely)… dogs allowed at this beach
crazy #1: we. know. (turns away and is still walking away from me)
crazy #2: what’d you say?
me: (still being nice) there are no dogs allowed at this beach
crazy #2: are you a lifeguard or something?
me: (still nice) no, actually, i just work out here and i chose this place because there are no dogs allowed here.
crazy #2: (aggressively) what, you don’t like dogs or something?
me: not really
crazy #2: well you should. my dog likes people.
me: well i’m actually allergic to dogs
crazy#2: well so am i, but i have a dog
me: (still being calm and trying to offer a rational explanation) well i’m allergic so i like to workout in places were dogs aren’t allowed, like here
crazy #2: well there are places where people aren’t allowed, too
me: well people are allowed here (confused)
crazy #2: well people suck!
me: well your dog sucks! (walks away toward car)
crazy #2: well maybe you’d be less allergic at mcdonalds!
::sigh:: seriously. that seriously happened to me. and just for clarification, i’m allergic to pretty much any animals with hair, though i’ve just come to accept it. and cats are way worse for me than anything else, though some cats more than others. like sarah’s family had a cat that i wasn’t allergic to at all and slept in the bed with me when i stayed there, but i’m deathly allergic to my cousin theresa’s cat and need to be medicated upon entering her house. so what the hell is up with dog owners? and why do so many of them think they don’t have to follow the rules? and i realize that this little incident should not have upset me in the slightest, but it did and sometimes i just can’t help it. i was trying to be polite about telling them, but it just didn’t work out. so when i got in the car, i called dad and explained what happened and ended up crying the whole way home. he was good and just stayed on the phone with me, which was all i needed. i know it’s all ridiculous and i won’t remember in a couple days, but it hurt in the moment. plus, i think that last comment that didn’t at all make sense was her attempt to call me fat, which is pretty much the last thing i want to hear when i’m just finishing a hard workout. anyway, then i went home.
i showered and found a little dinner because that seemed like the best thing to do. i got a coupon for a free pizza (no restrictions or anything) from pizza hut because i placed that complaint with them like a week ago about slow delivery and a cold pizza. rawk! i also got a new bathing suit i’d ordered a while back but was on backorder. and it’s cute! and it was so cheap! fall is definitely a good time to buy a cheap bathing suit! :) and i’ll get to use it next month in maui, so i’m stoked! otherwise, it’d be like a totally ridiculous purchase. but anyway, i like it! it’s simple and black but fits great! i have an issue with finding tops that fit well. :) anyway, that’s good news that it fits and all. oh, and i talked to sarah because she’s good for telling crazy dog people stories to because she knows that dogs are dogs, not people. :) and then i ended up on the phone with the family for like an hour. adam and i were just chatting about whatever random stuff, i don’t even know what. it was good to talk to him. :) and now it’s time for “studio 60,” which i’m sure will be great! :) and then i’m going to bed.
so i’ll be back tomorrow. for now, g’night. :)
p.s. i posted a photo of my lusk t-shirt on my flickr for you! :)
